I had an idea and I'm going to see how well I can stick to it! :)
I wanted a place where we could see family pictures and relive fun memories of things we've done through the years.
Life is busy and sometimes I think it's nice to have a reminder of the times we've been able to put aside everything else and get together with the people who matter the most!
I'd like to be able to try and put up a new post on a weekly basis (like I said, we'll see how well I can stick to that) and share a memory about our family.
If anyone has a memory they want to share then just pass it on to me with a text or email and I can post it on here!!
I used to make scrapbooks and family story books that we would pass around and look at during family gatherings and it was fun to see everyone laugh and bring up other memories they thought of as they looked at pictures or read stories.
There is a quote that says, “Studies have shown that children who know their family stories show more confidence, self control, resilience and less anxiety. They feel a part of something greater and sense a feeling of belonging. It creates an inter generational connection that helps bind the hearts together.”
To me that sounds like a good reason to keep the family stories passing around!😊
Some of the younger generation/2nd generation of cousins may not know some of the classic family stories that used to get told on a Sunday at the Farm after a big family dinner. And now that the older cousins are growing up, they don't get to spend as much time with the younger ones. My hope is that we can all connect in some way as we remember and learn about our family and who we are a part of!
So! For the first post of our new family blog, I think I should explain where the name of the link for it came from -
"Ya Bust My Squarsh"
Once upon a time there was a Grandma Dutch. She is Grandma Farns's mom and we all knew and loved her for her sometimes stern, yet love-able personality. She seemed tough on the outside, but always had a soft spot on the inside - unless she thought you were cheating during a game of
Skip-Bo. But she loved to have the kids and grandkids come sit around her kitchen table and play Skip-Bo with her while they drank cans of soda and ate through endless jars of her canned dilly beans.
She was also a fantastic gardener and a hard worker. One summer she was outside trying to get her riding lawnmower to start but no matter what she did, it just wouldn't.
As she was struggling with it, Uncle Keith happened to be passing by and asked if she needed some help. Grandma told him what was going on so Keith told her he'd try his luck with it.
As Keith sat down on the seat of the mower, there was a loud crack. He stood up and pushed the seat forward. Under the seat was a smashed squash that had Grandma picked from her garden earlier and apparently put there but forgotten about. As soon as Grandma saw it she exclaimed in despair,
"Oh, Keith! Ya bust my squarsh!"
So there we have it, the first story on the blog! I'll do my best to keep it fresh on here and have new pictures and stories as often as I can! Keep checking in and enjoy the fun memories from our family!!
Love you all!
TBird :)
